Burwell Mills' Obituary
Burwell David Mills age 84 of Huntersville, NC passed away at home on Sunday, September 10, 2017. Burwell was born on September 26, 1932 in Union County, Marshville, NC. Son of the late James Delphmas and Beatrice Rushing Mills. Burwell was a graduate of Union High School and attended Appalachian State University for 1 year before being drafted into the US Army and serving in Germany and France. Burwell graduated from Kings Business College in Business Administration, owned and operated TV Rental, Inc. in Charlotte for 30 years and retired from Radio Shack after 14 years.
During his life Burwell served as a deacon, bible teacher, and men’s brotherhood at First Baptist Church and Lakehaven Community Church in Huntersville. Burwell also volunteered in the Baptist Men’s Association and in State Brotherhood work. Active in Huntersville Lions Club from 1960-1980 he served as Secretary, President and Zone Chairman. Burwell was voted Huntersville Man of The Year in 1979 and was also active in the Metrolina Blind Association serving as board member for six years and board President for one term.
Burwell served his Lord as a soul winner in booths at Fairs and Flea markets, leading many people to know the Lord. He visited on the mission field in the Dominican Republic, working with missionaries and youth.
Burwell is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lucille Rupard Mills, daughter Claudette Mills Newman and husband Vic Newman, sons Randy Mills and Jeff Mills and his wife Lori Mills. Granddaughters Sharon Miller Wofford (Nick), Kelly Miller, Reilly Mills, Jorie Mills, Gracyn Mills and Loren Mills. He is also survived by brother Bobby Carol Mills and family, other family members and many life time friends and loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at James Funeral Home in Huntersville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at James Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Huntersville First Baptist Church.
