Carol Gant's Obituary
Carol Larson Gant, 83, of Huntersville died January 20, 2025. She was born on December 25, 1941 in Elmhurst, IL to the late Ben and Bernice Larson.
Carol was born in Elmhurst, IL. There she spent her early childhood with her Mother and Father, brother David, and sister Linda. Ice skating and visiting her grandparents at “The Farm” were some of her happiest times. In 1951 her family moved to Winter Park FL. More memories were made sitting in the orchard eating fruit, swimming in Lake Killarney with the alligators, and at age 11 she gave her life to Jesus. In 1954 the family moved to Charlotte, NC where she graduated from Central High School in 1959. After high-school she attended and graduated from Queens College and earned a BS degree and a certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathology which she applied to her work at Memorial Hospital. Soon after, she met and married the love of her life Bob Gant in 1963. Carol worked at Emory University Hospital in pathology while Bob finished up his seminary degree. Carol moved to Santuc, SC when Bob became the full-time minister at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church. In 1974, she moved to Sumter, SC and spent 20 years raising her 3 children. She loved her time in Sumter and was highly involved at the Fraser Memorial Presbyterian Church where Bob was the minister. Carol loved to write and began documenting her child raising experiences in a journal that she named “The Sumter Swamp.” After Sumter, Carol & Bob lived in in Greensboro, NC, Rock Hill, SC, and finally Huntersville, NC.
Carol was active in the Christian Women’s Club, Church activities, Habitat for Humanity, and took up Square Dancing with Bob. Carol was a good neighbor. Every where she lived, she made life-long friends. The last few years of Carol’s life were enriched by Wanda Faschino. Carol first met Wanda as a caregiver to Bob in his declining years, but over time Wanda became not just a dear friend, but part of the family.
Carol’s hobbies included spending time in her gardens caring for flowers and tomatoes, photography, genealogy, and journal writing. She self published a book called “The Meeting Place.” which incorporated family history.
