Carol Smith's Obituary
Carol L. Smith
11/06/1934 – 7/02/2024
Born in Drumright Oklahoma to Thomas and Oralee Barger in 1934. She was one of five children. In her early adult years she moved to Texas where she met her first husband Robert L. Chambers and had three children of her own. During their years together Robert’s work took the family to California where Carol found a job in the medical field as a Phlebotomist and lab technician. She worked at the Woodruff Community Hospital in Long Beach California for several years earning her a great reputation as a talented Phlebotomist.
After her divorce and life changes she continued working in the medical field until her retirement. Along the way she met Kirby Smith, a wonderful man with a passion for our Lord, traveling, music, gardening and sharing good times with friends and family. Carol loved the same things, they shared their lives together until Kirby passed away in December, 2022.
Carol’s constant smile and vivacious attitude will be missed by many. She once wrote “throughout my life I’ve faced adversity, but it has taught me a valuable lesson. If you get knocked down, you have two choices, lie there and be defeated or get up stronger for the experience. I have always chosen to get up.” She lived by that code.
She fell asleep and went peacefully in the afternoon to see our Lord July 2, 2024. She is survived by her oldest son, Robert P. Chambers, her daughter in law, Joann Chambers, grandsons, Michael and Robby Chambers.
The family would like to extend a special Thank you to those who gave their time, love and care to Carol and Kirby.
Many thanks to James Funeral Home for their gentle, loving care for Carol. Thank you all for your love and friendship.
