Carolyn McCaslin's Obituary
Carolyn Sherwood McCaslin, 90, of Huntersville died October 13, 2021 at The Laurels of Highland Creek. She was born on October 23, 1930 in Sugar Grove, NC to the late James and Nannie Sherwood.
Carolyn grew up on a dairy farm in the mountains of NC (Watauga County) and was one of ten children. She received her Elementary Education degree from Appalachian State University and taught third grade for 35 years at Huntersville Elementary School.
She and her late husband, J.T. McCaslin, were faithful supporters of the Huntersville community and the Huntersville United Methodist Church. After her retirement from teaching, Carolyn worked diligently in the church food pantry. She was a member of Eastern Star as well.
Carolyn enjoyed playing bridge, walking and she was a devoted fan of country music. Some of her friends at the Laurels like to tell of her always singing “On the Road Again”. She could listen to Hank Williams or Patsy Cline and recite nearly every word.
Those who knew Carolyn will describe her as kind, considerate, generous, caring and blessed with a great sense of humor. Others will cite her incredibly optimistic and grateful attitude toward life and the people in her life.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband J.T. McCaslin and eight of her nine siblings. Survivors include her brother Bill Sherwood, close friends Larry and Jane Ward, Gene and Pat Brown, Wallace and Lynn Howard and many other friends and relatives.
The funeral service will be at 2 pm Tuesday, November 2 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 to 2 prior. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
