Carolyn Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Carolyn Cashion Smith went to her heavenly reward for a life of caring for others on July 29th, 2024.
A native of Cornelius, NC, Carolyn and Harold Smith met on a blind date in Charlotte where Carolyn was in nursing training. She and Harold fell in love and married shortly after he graduated from seminary. Carolyn, who had vowed "never to become a preacher’s wife” became one. They lovingly served Baptist churches in Norfolk, VA; Beulahville, NC; North Wilkesboro, NC; Cedar Creek, NC; Charlotte, NC; Cherry Grove, NC; and Huntersviille, NC. She actively supported her husband’s ministry, especially youth activities, and added five lively children of her own to the church communities where they served. She remained active in churches as long as her health allowed. Her greatest pride and joy were her many family members, each of whom she prayed for nightly by name (yes, prayers could take a while), and nothing delighted her more than spending time with every one from the oldest children to the youngest great-grandchild.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold T. Smith, Sr.; her parents, Clyde Cashion and Kate Knox Cashion; and her brother, Mack Cashion.
She is survived by her five children, Lynda Smith and husband Bill Burkholder of High Point; Kristina Morton and husband Sonny of New Smyrna Beach, FL; H. Truett Smith, Jr. and wife Vickie of Davidson, NC; Jerry Smith and wife Lora of Mooresville, NC; Terry Smith and wife Nicki of Monroe, NC; her seventeen grandchildren, Joshua and wife Charlsea; Leigh; Caleb and wife Bianca; Nick and wife English; Jessie and husband Tyler, Rachel and husband David; Mary Lynn and husband Josh; Luke; Jay; Trevor; Katie and husband Holden; Isaac; Travis and wife Ryan; Gabriel; Anna; Matthew; and Nathaniel; Michael and wife Catherine; her eight great-grandchildren, Eli, Owen, Noah, Lilly, Amelia, Henley, Levi, and Erik; and her sister, Martha Archer of Cornelius.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, August 3rd at James Funeral Home of Huntersville. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at the Community Cemetery at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Cornelius following the funeral.

Carolyn was a wonderful cook. Her kitchen was always filled with wonderful food and lots of laughter and love. She also helped prepare a multitude of church dinners! In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations be made in Carolyn’s honor to FeedNC at https://www.feednc.org/
