Casey McGinnis' Obituary
Casey Camille McGinnis, 67, of Charlotte died May 16, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1958 in Jacksonville, FL to the late William Barron McGinnis and Helen Frazier McGinnis. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Linda McGinnis and Robin Marquez She is survived by her niece Jaime McGinnis Cooper of Washington and Chris and Michael Marquez both of California. As well as two lifelong friends, Joe LaVoie and Annie Mykkanen of CA.
Casey was KIND and COMPASSIONATE. She was passionate about her work as a nurse and the patient's that put their trust in her. She went above and beyond for all of them during her time as a traveling nurse, a unit nurse and a jail nurse. No one ever received less than her very best because of work loads or the situations that brought the two of them together. Even as she transitioned to an online nursing role with the Red Cross, giving the patient her undivided attention and very best effort was her number one priority.. Her kindness and compassion for others led her to make anatomical gifts. She wanted to leave this world attempting to make it a better place for strangers through her gifts.
Casey was LOVING. She never seemed to meet a stranger and anyone and everyone felt welcome in her home. She loved opening her home to friends to share a meal. Many of those invitations were met with the amazing smells of baked goods and one of the many many recipes she found and prepared for her guests. Her love of cooking and baking brought her much joy.
Her love for animals was amazing. She loved all animals, but her kitty cats were everything. No animals could have possibly been loved or cared for more than she did her babies. She even opened her home on two occasions to a cat family displaced because of hurricane evacuations. She expressed the same love and concern for those animals as she had for her very own.
Casey was FEARLESS. Casey was very independent and always took care of herself. She moved many times in her younger years. One of her moves took her to London. One of the greatest experiences of her life was attending the stage presentation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show while in London. She expressed many times the excitement of that time of her life, always reminiscing about that memorable experience of that live performance. She moved to Charlotte after blindly putting a pin in the map, packing the belongings she could fit in her 2 seat car and driving across the country from California.
Casey was rooted deeply in FAITH. She did not want anyone to feel great sadness because she knew that God had her in his hands. Even with all the health struggles she experienced this past year she always knew there was a plan for her life. One of the bright spots while she was hospitalized, was the sugar cookies baked in the hospital . She ordered one with her meal whenever they were available. So if you are experiencing sadness which we all do, next time you are at your local bakery or store buy some sugar cookies. Share them with your friends, family or even strangers. You can share a little story of Casey's life and be sure and eat one of those cookies for her. She often said it's the little things that can bring you a smile.
In honoring her wishes, the service was private. You can honor her through a donation or volunteering to spend time with an animal in your local shelter. She will just love that!
From Rocky Horror Picture Show the closing song lyrics.
On the day I went away (Goodbye)
Was all I had to say (Now I)
I want to come again and stay (Oh my, my)
Smile, and that will mean I may
'Cause I've seen, oh, blue skies
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realise
I'm going home (I'm going home)
Everywhere it's been the same (Feeling)
Like I'm outside in the rain (Wheeling)
Free, to try and find a game (Dealing)
Cards for sorrow, cards for pain
'Cause I've seen, oh, blue skies
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realise
I'm going home (I'm going home)
I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home
