Marty and I were friends and classmates at East Elementary School. He lived just down the street from me. I moved away and lost contact with him until we met on a shooting range in Statesville by chance more than fifty years later. My condolences to Marty's family.
I met Marty in 1975. We both started at UCC that year.
He was a great friend and we did many things together. One memory is skiing at Snow Shoe on super bowl Sunday. We had the hill pretty much to ourselves. Or riding horses in the San Juan park in Colorado. Marty didn’t have cowboy boots so he wore work boots with shorts.
After I left Carbide we stayed in touch. The phone calls and occasional visit will be forever fond memories.
Rest In Peace Bud. I will see you again some day.
Marty, you taught me so many things ! You were a mentor in so many ways. For one reason or another, you’ve stayed present in my thoughts throughout the years, even after I left Dow.
One memory that I will never forget is when visiting a customer in Reynosa, MX, but our flight to McAllen got cancelled because of weather. We somehow both thought it would be a good idea to fly to Laredo instead and drive, at night, throughout the US/MX border… we were pulled over by the border patrol on our Brand New Black Lincoln rental, probably too suspicious… but we had to get to the customer, right ?
You always looked for people around you Marty. I will forever treasure your teachings, these memories, and this is how I will. Respectfully, and full of life and laughter !
I knew Marty before I joined the UCC W&C Sales team in 1995, but I really got to know the gentleman he was during my time in W&C. He helped me get up to speed in my new assignment and he was a joy to travel with. It was very clear he was devoted to Pam and his children in our discussions on the road. It was my distinct pleasure to have promoted Marty to Sales Account Manager during my time in the W&C business (one of the many promotions Marty earned during his career). This one I think was very special to him as Pam pulled together childhood photos of Marty and Rene Freeman had them made into 35mm slides for me to use after dinner at our W&C sales meeting announcing his promotion using the theme "Marty this is your life". It was a wonderful thing to share with Marty's friends on the W&C sales force and I can tell Marty was very happy and surprised.

Marty and I met while working at Union Carbide when I transferred to sales in 1990. He was my mentor and taught me everything about sales that I know today. As our careers shifted we stayed in touch and exchanged ideas on business. Marty had a passion for making people around him better in any way. One memory I have is at dinner at his home with Pam and we talked about school science projects as Emma had to prepare one. We ended up with a project on density of liquids which was a great success and actually may have stimulated sciences for Emma. Again, always trying to make people better. I will miss you Marty and treasure our friendship. My thoughts go out to the Beam family and I wish you “courage” as you press forward during this difficult period. Life to all of you.

I met Marty in 2004 when I joined the W&C business as he was the expert in the business and one of the best sellers across all businesses at Dow. Marty was a mentor and good friend during my 15 plus years in the business who I will miss every day. We stayed in touch during his retirement and I remember he always talking about his family with great pride. My prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
I had the pleasure of working with Marty for over ten years, I was his admin at Dow. He was such a kind soul and made everyone in his presence welcome. No matter how long you knew him, he was so easy to talk with. Usually when he called we spent close to an hour on the phone catching up about life. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to Pam, Emily, Chris and his grandbabies that he was so proud of.
