Charles Bedingfield's Obituary
Mr. Charles “Chuck” Henry Bedingfield, age 90, of Concord NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Chuck was born on June 12, 1934 to his loving parents William Elbert Bedingfield and Lucyle Nelson Bedingfield. After graduating from Tennill High School in Georgia, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Japan, where he proudly served 1954 to 1956.
After military, his interest in aviation took him to Atlanta where he worked as an ambulance driver while putting himself through flight school. As fate would have it, he was called to help a woman suffering from appendicitis. This beautiful young lady, Joyce Chance turned out to be the love of his life! They were married at a home wedding in Memphis, Tennessee, and enjoyed 57 years together.
After starting their family, Chuck owned and operated The Lens Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina. For over 30 years, he manufactured custom contact lenses. He traveled the region assisting eye specialist with difficult cases. Chuck was very dedicated to his church life and instilled strong Christian values in his children. He was a member of Lake Norman Baptist Church and later joined Neighborhood Church.
Weekends were spent on the lake… fishing, boating, and entertaining family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and equally enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing. Chuck held both Merchant Marine and Private Vessel license.
He was a lover of dogs and especially adored his yorkie Cici. Afternoons were spent on the dock watching the boats go by. In retirement Chuck enjoyed watching the Carolina Panthers, Pro golf, and game shows on TV.
Mr. Bedingfield was proceeded in death by his parents, William and Lucyle, his wife Joyce Marie Chance, brother Bill Bedingfield, sister Lillian Kennedy, and beloved dog, Cici.
Mr. Bedingfield is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Bedingfield, sons: Bryant Bedingfield and wife Donna, John Bedingfield and wife Laura, grandsons Jacob and Will (Mallory), great-granddaughter, Ella Grace, and sister-in-law, Diane Chance.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at Taylor Glen and Hospice Health Partners for their care and kindness over the last nine months.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday, August 25 at James Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mount Zion. Visitation will be 1 to 2 prior to the service.
