Charles G. Keener's Obituary
Charles Gerard Keener, age 72 of Cornelius died August 5, 2014 at his home after a long illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen, his son, Robert Keener and his wife, Stacie, his daughter
Christine Simone and her husband, John, and his daughter Patricia Walsh-Starnes and her husband, Scotti; his sister, Patty, and her husband, John Ignaszak, and their children Christy and Scotty; his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Gebel, and her children Pauline and Frankie. He is also survived by his twelve loving grandchildren: Jaden, Haley, and Lauren Keener; Ralph and Gianna Simone; Francis, Micaila, and Hanna Walsh; Stanly, Brian, Brooke, and Katie Starnes. He was pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Francis X. Walsh, II.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who also served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. He grew up and worked in Queens, New York, and later happily adopted North Carolina as his home. He was an outstanding baseball player in his youth and
was able to pass his knowledge of the game to many young players, including his grandchildren. He loved the game of baseball and worked at a local baseball facility. His grandchildren could always count on Grandpa Keener to be at their games and recitals. He was their biggest fan.
Charlie had a great sense of humor, an outstanding work ethic, and was a totally devoted family man.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 8 from 4-6 PM at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville. The funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 9 at St. Mark Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens in Huntersville.
