Charles Howard Craven,'s Obituary
Charles Howard Craven, Sr., 78, of Huntersville, died August 25, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born on April 21, 1935 in Randolph County to the late Charles Braxton and Ellen McAlister Craven. He served in the US Army and worked at U.S. Plywood and Queen City Lumber. Later he started his own business in repair and modeling. Howard coached Starclaire Pop Warner football and little league baseball. During his retirement, he loved woodworking, especially giving baby cradles to children. He loved UNC sports and his church family at Ramah.
Survivors include his wife Phoebe Williams Craven of Huntersville; daughters, Melanie Craven Griffith and husband Danny of Cornelius, Meg Craven of Southern Pines; sons, Chuck and wife Susan of Maiden and Rob and wife Tara of York, SC; sister, Helen Craven Morris of Pensacola, Florida and James M. Craven of Oak Island, NC; grandchildren, Chase, Adam, Melissa, CJ, Travis, Lexie, McKenzie and Logan.
Memorials may be made to Ramah Presbyterian Church, 14401 Ramah Church Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday, August 28 at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 AM Thursday at Ramah Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andy Wing officiating.
