Charles Calvin Hucks' Obituary
Charles "Calvin" Hucks was born on November 12, 1929, to happy parents Ben and Irene Timmons Hucks. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Gilbert, on June 9, 1947, shortly after they graduated from Huntersville High School.
Calvin retired from Duke Energy after 40 years of service. He enjoyed helping others, volunteering at Crisis Assistance Ministry and the American Red Cross, among others. He received a Volunteer of the Year Award from Charlotte, and was presented an autographed book by Maya Angelou. He never met a stranger and was loved by many. His son-in-law will tell all that he was the best father-in-law ever. His granddaughters thought the sun couldn't come up until Gramps got up. He was thrilled when his great-grandsons finally arrived. He always loved kids.
He is survived by his devoted family: His wife, daughter Anne Davis (John) of Blowing Rock, granddaughters Christina Catrett (Thomas) of Alabama, Erin Hopper (Steven) of Wisconsin, and Lauren Davis of Montana; and 2 great-grandsons, Evan and Nathan Hopper.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Martha Hucks McConnell.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care (Charlotte Region), P.O. Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247; Crisis Assistance Ministry; or to the donor's choice.
The family extends their heartfelt acknowledgement to Mr. Ernest Springs for his loving care over the years, his prayers and being the best friend until the end of our husband and father.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21 at James Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Huntersville ARP Church Cemetery. Service will be livestreamed via James Funeral Home of Huntersville Facebook Page. Online condolences at www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com.
