Charles Workman's Obituary
Charles Workman, of Davidson, passed away peacefully at Levine Dickson hospice care center at the age of 85. He fought hard for over four months after complications from outpatient surgery but accepted that it was time to find peace after being rushed to the hospital last Thursday. But in reality, he fought his entire life after contracting polio at age 6.
Charles will be remembered as a kind, patient, witty, generous, loving, and devoted - everything you could wish for in a father, husband, brother, or friend. He worked for over five decades as an ocularist (or maker of artificial eyes) and went above and beyond to ensure those in need of such services had access to care. Charles continued to be an active member of the American Society of Ocularists in retirement.
Away from work, Charles served in leadership positions at his church, Boy Scouts Troop, and local youth sports organizations in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where he and his wife of 50 years, Marjorie, lived prior to relocating to North Carolina. He was a talented painter and loved traveling and model railroading.
He is survived by his four children, sons Tom, Nat and Chris, and daughter Linda, as well as his brother Allen and ten grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 23 at 2 pm in the chapel of James Funeral Home. Burial will take place beside his wife at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
