Chris Lorraine Lundsten's Obituary
Chris Lorraine Lundsten was born August 24, 1963, in Indiana. She was a beloved daughter to Stanley and Jim Burford, and a loving older sister to Lynn Burford.
Chris began her college journey at Purdue University but quickly traded the snow for sunshine, transferring to the University of Arizona to complete her degree in Food Sciences. Her path eventually brought her back to the Midwest with stops in Cleveland, Chicago, and finally Wisconsin, where she earned her master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while building a successful career in food science sales. In Wisconsin, she met John Lundsten, with whom she shared a loving marriage for over 30 years.
After six long winters, Chris and John moved to North Carolina to start their family. Chris became a fearless and devoted mother to triplet daughters: Laura, Marissa and Vanessa Lundsten.
Chris was a true original: creative, bold and unapologetically herself. She poured her talents into everything she did, whether designing elaborate costumes, organizing consignment sales, taking people out on the boat, or simply showing up when someone needed help. She never hesitated. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and special.
If you knew Chris, you knew her love didn’t stop at the ordinary. She was open to the weird and wonderful parts of life, and had room in her heart for every person or creature she came across. She had many cats, rats, and even a tarantula. Her curiosity was boundless, her imagination vivid, and her sense of humor unforgettable.
Chris passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on Sunday, June 22, surrounded by her loving family. Even in death, she continues to give, donating her body to Wake Forest University. It was her way of continuing to support scientists and sarcoma cancer research. She was just that type of person, helpful to so many.
She will be missed beyond measure, but she lives on in every laugh, every act of kindness, and every beautifully quirky thing that reminds us of her. The world was brighter because of Chris, and always will be through the lives she touched.
