I am very blessed to have grown up with Uncle Garren in my life. Although we lived several states away, being my mother's younger brother, we usually spent Thanksgivings together in Virginia and we came to the lake during spring breaks and summers. As a young girl, he made a lasting impression on me with his patience and kindness demonstrated while teaching me how to waterski. No matter how many times I kept falling, he would circle around in the boat and ask if I wanted to try again (and again and again!) and said he would keep going as long as I wanted to keep trying. He cheered with our successes and encouraged us when we struggled.
Uncle Garren and Aunt Joan always went out of their way to make sure we got in the much beloved boat time together we longed for over the summers. Bill and I have such fond memories of bringing our boys to the lake when they were young. Uncle Garren would let them climb into the "captain's seat" and let them steer the pontoon boat. Bar B Q's and brunches at the lake were a favorite as well. There was always a lot of laughter with his great sense of humor. He made everyone feel valued and was quick to give of his time to help others. His giving nature was apparent to all of us.
We will always remember Uncle Garren's generous spirit, patience, kindness and quick wit. We will miss him greatly but will cherish the many fond memories we have of him. Rest in peace Uncle Garren. We love you.
Love, Barbara
