Dan Burgess' Obituary
Daniel Lawrence Burgess, 74, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at TerraBella Lake Norman assisted living community in Mooresville, NC.
Dan was born on December 26, 1946 in Buffalo, NY to Lawrence and Mildred Burgess. He spent over 50 years in Christian music as a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, and master of ceremonies. Dan toured around the world for several years with groups such as the Continental Singers, New Hope, and Renaissance before working at Lexicon Music and Good Life Publications compiling over ten choral studio recordings. Later Dan produced, arranged, wrote, and recorded many other choral album collections for Hosanna Music, Integrity Worship, Praise Gathering Publications, Discovery Music, Maranatha Music, and Word Music. In later years Dan worked for CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) charting worship music for churches to be used around the world. Some of Dan's most familiar original songs are "Thank You Lord," "Press On," "Victorious Lord," "I'm a Miracle, Lord," "You Are There," "His Love Endures Forever," and "Let Us See Your Glory." His song, "Press On," recorded by the group Selah was nominated for "Song of the Year" at the GMA Dove Awards in 2001.
Dan is survived by his mother, Mildred Burgess of TerraBella Lake Norman; his siblings, Diane Hofert of Mooresville, NC and Dave Burgess (Susan) of Paragould, Arkansas; his four nephews, Scott Hofert (Taryn), Nels Hofert (Naomi), Brian Hofert (Gina), and Adam Burgess; and his seven great nieces and great nephews, Emma, Ethan, Colsen, Jackson, Keane, Paisley, and London.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held at 2 p.m. EDT, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at James Funeral Home of Huntersville and streamed via Facebook Live and YouTube.
