Daniel Cooney's Obituary
Daniel Timothy Cooney, 68, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 7th, 2022. He was a beloved husband and father, an Airline Captain, and a follower of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen McDonald Cooney, and their children, Frances Nevin and her husband Joe, and Katie Cooney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Cooney and Frances Hill Cooney, and his brother, Richie.
Dan was born on March 13th, 1954 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, CA in 1972, and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington in 1976. At a young age, Dan fell in love with Aviation and after college, he pursued a commercial pilot’s license. He met the love of his life, Cathy, while working at Eastern Airlines. After a decade there, he achieved the lifelong dream of joining TWA. He moved his family to Saint Louis, Missouri and spent most of his career as Captain on the MD-80, eventually retiring from American Airlines.
Dan was an avid adventurer. He traveled extensively in his life, starting with a year in Florence, Italy during college. He continued that throughout his career, traveling all over the world with TWA, and instilled that love in his family, frequently taking them on wonderful trips to see new parts of the world. Dan was passionate about antique cars, having owned and restored his grandfather’s 1956 Ford Thunderbird later in life. He loved to cruise around town in that bright red convertible, showing it off at every opportunity, from stop lights to Antique Car Shows. Dan was proud of his Irish heritage - always telling anyone who would listen that he was '100% Irish!' He spent every day of his life with the Lord. Dan read his Bible cover to cover many times over and had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. His personality could light up any room, and laughter followed him. Dan touched many lives and will be so deeply missed.
Flowers may be sent to Cathy Cooney, 14407 189th Ave Court East, Bonnie Lake, Washington, 98391.
