Daniel Paul Arendas' Obituary
Daniel Paul Arendas, age 53, of Mooresville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Dan was born in Boston, MA and was the son of Larry and Carole Arendas of Terrell, NC and the husband of Christie Cillo Arendas of Mooresville.
Dan grew up in West Windsor, NJ and graduated from West Windsor-Plainsboro H.S. where he was a standout athlete in baseball and basketball. Dan graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Economics and was a member of the Princeton baseball team. During his college baseball career, he was a two-time All-American, selected to the All-Ivy League team and established several hitting records that still stand today. In 1985, during Dan’s junior year, he helped the Tigers win the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball Championship and NCAA Tournament. The Princeton Tigers recently named Dan the recipient of the Robert L. Peters, Jr. ’42 Award. Upon graduation, Dan was drafted by the New York Yankees and spent 4 years playing minor league baseball, reaching Double-A in 1988 and 1989.
After retiring from baseball, Dan entered the business world holding positions at the Commodities Exchange in NYC, SunTrust in FL and IBM in NC. For the past 17 years, he was with Wells Fargo Advisors in NC where he was a First Vice President and eBusiness Manager in the Digital Division.
Dan was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with them golfing, watching Nascar races and vacationing at the beach. Also, his beloved dog, London, was never far from his side. Dan was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, cheering the team on with his father every week during the football season. His extended family and friends enjoyed the benefits of his culinary skills as he often cooked, baked and entertained during the holidays.
In addition to his wife, Christie and parents, Larry and Carole Arendas, Dan is survived by his two sons, Kyle and Brady; sister, Laurie Venzon (John) of Davidson, brother, David Arendas (Nicole) of Greensboro, sister, Lisa Morgan (Peter) of Charlotte, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Lori Cillo of Dade City, FL and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 17th at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Rd, Cornelius, NC from 1:30 until 3:00pm. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:oo pm, with Pastor Farrell Lemmings officiating. A reception in the church’s Clanton Hall will follow the service.
