Danny Ray Pilley's Obituary
Danny Ray Pilley, age 81, passed away peacefully, while in the care of Levine and Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville, NC, surrounded by his loving family. Danny was born in Beckley WV, on June 3, 1944, to Andrew and Nancy (Stewart) Pilley.
Dan enjoyed playing games with his family, gardening, fishing, investing, racing, traveling, and was an avid golfer. He loved being around people and was never one to keep to himself. He genuinely enjoyed learning about others while sharing stories about his own life. His humor and conversation filled every room.
Dan always had opinions—and you didn’t even have to ask for them. There wasn’t a subject that came up that he didn’t have something to contribute. He was more of a listener than a reader, but if he heard something interesting, there was a very good chance he would remember it.
He loved working and valued the relationships he built throughout his career, but he had little tolerance for dishonesty and deeply respected integrity.
As his health declined, Dan transitioned to the assisted living community at Arbor Ridge, where he enjoyed frequent visits from family, so long as they didn’t interfere with his busy activity schedule, especially BINGO. He formed many new friendships, enthusiastically participated in community activities, and was deeply loved and cared for by the staff. Everyone there knew and loved “Danny.”
Above all, Dan loved being a dad and adored Brad and Dandy, along with the extended family they brought into his life. He often said he was a blessed man.
He will be deeply missed until the day we are reunited in Heaven.
Danny was predeceased by his parents and his brother Ronald Pilley and his step-father Wilmer Rorrer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kay Pilley, his son Brad Pilley and his wife Lisa, his daughter Dandy Tomczyk and her husband Jim, his grandchildren Ashleigh, Connor, Haley, William and Sydney and his great grandchildren Colin and Lucas.
Services for Danny will be private and held at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, where Dan spent his final days and was cared for with dignity and compassion.
Arrangements are by James Funeral Home of Huntersville.
