Darlene Brown's Obituary
Darlene Brown, of Huntersville, also known as "Dolly" to family and friends, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2017, at the age of 77 in Huntersville, NC after "winning" a private battle with cancer.
She was born on October 22, 1939 to George and Irene Platt of Plainfield, New Jersey. Her brother, George Platt, II was born 7 years later and the two would become inseperable.
Darlene matriculated through the Plainfield NJ school system, graduating from Plainfield High School in the Class of 1957.
Darlene dedicated her entire life to work and family. Not long after high school she became employed by the United States Federal Government, Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she served for over 40 years. On May, 11, 1962, she married James "Boots" Brown, and one year later their daughter Valerie was born. Never one to join social groups or organizations, Darlene was a private person who delighted in spending time with her family and small circles of close friends who were all considered family.
She was lovingly referred to as "Sis", "Mom", or "Aunt Darlene" by many.
In June 2010, Darlene moved from Plainfield NJ to Huntersville, NC near Charlotte to be closer to her only Daughter and family. While living in North Carolina she would gain another circle of extended family and friends.
Afraid of flying, Darlene would welcome a long road trip or a Caribbean Cruise any time. She also loved watching game shows and spending time outdoors just enjoying nature.
Darlene will be long rememered for her directness (don't ask her if you didn't want the truth!) and her sense of humor, especially with her immediate family, nieces and nephews whom she absolutely adored.
In addition to both parents, Darlene is predeceased by her Husband Boots and only Brother George E. Platt, II, She is survived by her Daughter Valerie Daye, Son-in-Law Brian Daye, and Grandson Jared, all of Huntersville, NC, Sister-in-law Sheila Platt of Palm Coast, FL, and a host of beloved family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held in New Jersey. Details are currently being planned.
A luncheon honoring Darlene will also be held in Charlotte, NC on May 13, 2017. Please contact the family for specifics.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
