Darrell Ellis' Obituary
Darrell Reid Ellis, 75, of Charlotte died July 15, 2023. He was born in Charlotte on April 14, 1948 to the late Reid and Doris Ellis. He was raised on State St in west Charlotte surrounded by his immediate and extended family with whom he remained extremely close throughout his entire life. He was a graduate of Harding High School and attended UNC-Charlotte. He worked for P.C. Godfrey for over 40 years, retiring as company Vice-President and Plumbing Division Manager. Darrell was a member of the North Carolina Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling Contractors Association, serving on the Board of Directors and a term as State President.
He was married to his wife, Susan for 53 years.
Darrell was an active member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church for 58 years and Westport Baptist Church for 17 years. He served numerous terms as a church Deacon.
He was an avid golfer, classic car enthusiast, and always enjoyed yard work. He enjoyed classic car auctions and showing his 1964 GTO and 1937 Chevrolet truck. Darrell enjoyed traveling, taking cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean, and the Baltic states.
Survivors include his wife Susan Young Ellis; sons, Aaron Ellis and wife Nicole of Iron Station and Kyle Ellis and wife Blake of Youngsville; brother, Dean and wife Deb of Laurel Springs; and grandchildren, Reagan, Anna, Kendall and Rachel. He was preceded in death by his brother Brian.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, July 19 at Westport Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Owenby officiating. Vistation will be from 10-11 AM in the sanctuary prior. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West.
