It was late in the afternoon on Sunday, 10/29, when Michael called to let me know that one of my best friends had passed on Saturday night. Dave Hauck was a lifelong friend - a real friend.
We first got to know each other in the sixth grade at St. Joseph Elementary School. That was 68 years ago.We went on to graduate from St. Joseph Hogh School in 1961. I remember sitting on Dave's front porch at the corner of LaSalle St. and Notre Dame Ave.talking about everything under the sun. We both loved music and cars among other things. We could always argue over which car company was the best.Dave also had a special love of airplanes. It was not surprising that he had worked for two major airlines. Dave's outgoing and pleasant personality never reflected his challenging childhood. His biography would be a best seller. I cherish many great memories growing up with Dave.
Over the years, after Dave left South Bend,, we stayed in touch with many personal visits or on the phone. The last time I saw Dave (and Flo) in person was their visit in April of 2016. I have attached a treasured picture from that good time.
Dave was a very caring person. He took great care of his mother - Noreen, his brother - Dick,, his wife - Flo, and his son - Michael. My condolences to Michael and all of the fortunate people who knew my friend - Dave Hauck.
