David "Jan" Williams' Obituary
David (Jan) Williams, 65, passed away peacefully with family at his home in Stanley, NC on Monday, December 1, 2014.
Jan, a native of the Black Jack community of Pitt County, was born on February 28, 1949 the son of Charlie O. and Evelyn Mills Williams. Jan attended East Carolina University and received an Associate Degree in Fish and Wildlife from Martin Community College. He had made his home in Stanley, NC since 1974, where he was employed with Duke Energy Corporation as an environmental biologist for 36 ½ years.
Jan was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Stanley and had served as chairman of the deacon board. He was currently serving his eight year term on the Town Council of Stanley, enjoying being active in community affairs. Jan was a member of the 49th Carolina Legion and participated in many Civil War Reenactments. He also enjoyed being a member of the NC Wildlife Society, Catawba Lands Conservancy, the Regimental Quarter Master and Sports Car Club of America.
Jan was known for his generous heart, caring spirit, selflessness nature and a ready smile. Jan thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with all his family, grandchild and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by his father, Charlie O. Williams. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jamie Gowans Williams; sons, Dustin Jan Williams and wife, Jane, of Chapel Hill, NC and their son, Deklan Raine Williams, and Daniel Scott Williams of Stanley, NC; mother, Evelyn Williams Evans and husband, Melvin, of Greenville, NC; brother, Jerry Randall Williams and wife, Amy, of Huntersville, NC; and his sister, Jennifer Ann Akeley and husband, Mike, of Charlotte, NC.
A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Stanley with Rev. Dan King officiating on Wednesday, December 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will follow in the church Founders Hall. Interment will be held at Pinewood Cemetery, Greenville NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Mercy Ministries, 512 Old Mt. Holly Road, Stanley, NC 28164.
