David L. MacKay's Obituary
David Lawrence MacKay, 72, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on March 24, 2026 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
David was born on August 19, 1953 in Charlottesville, VA to Donald and Ruth MacKay. He grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1972, where he played football for the Lions. After high school David took classes at Central Piedmont Community College.David married Jane Caskey MacKay in 1975 and together they had three children, Emily, Allison and Bradford. David worked as an Inspector for the City of Charlotte Utility Department for 30 years. After retirement he spent several years working for Capstone Civil Group. He had a passion for Charlotte 49ers athletics, he especially enjoyed basketball and football for which he was a long time season ticket holder. He found joy in serving others at church through Royal Rangers, teaching Sunday School, providing children sermons, participating in church plays, giving a helping hand to service projects, and serving as a deacon.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years Jane, his three children, Emily (Nick) McEntire, Allison (Leron) Willins, and Bradford MacKay and three grandchildren, Samantha Willins, Liv Willins, and Madeline McEntire. In addition he is survived by his three sisters, Beth (Steve) Wood, Judy Penny, and Barbara (Ed) Beverly along with his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ruth MacKay.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 2 PM at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church Growing Faith Fund.
