David Olney's Obituary
David Wayne Olney, of Charlotte, died suddenly on August 15, 2022 at age 63. He was born on May 25, 1959 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Wayne Olney and Margaret Harner Olney. He is survived by his wife, Julie Masters Olney; daughter, Jennifer Olney and husband Ben Healy; daughter, Lauren Williams and husband Daryn Williams; and three grandchildren, Maggie, Lily, and Ezra.
Dave attended the University of Michigan and was a lifetime U of M fan. After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree, he moved to the Carolinas where he spent 29 years with Duke Power. Dave “retired” but continued to share his pump expertise through training and consulting. He made many lifelong friends throughout his career that he continued to see regularly.
A devoted father, Dave spent many years coaching his daughters in basketball and soccer, encouraging their love of sports. He explored new places with his family, sharing accumulated trivia and stories with new friends and old. Recently, he visited each of North Carolina’s 41 State Parks with his wife, Julie, diligently capturing photos of the various wildflowers. When he wasn’t traveling with his family or fine tuning his golf game, he could be found spending time with his beloved grandchildren and pets.
A celebration of life will be held at 2pm, Saturday August 20th at Christ United Methodist Church in Charlotte, where he was an active member. Family will receive friends following the service from 3-4pm.
Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church (https://www.xumc.org/give) or the V Foundation for Cancer Research (www.v.org).
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
