Dennis Coogle's Obituary
Dennis Richard Coogle, 59, of Mooresville, died July 25, 2011 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. He was born in Miami, Florida on November 11, 1951 to the late Charles Richard and Margaret Woods Coogle. Despite suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease for the nearly five years, Dennis remained a steady presence in his family home and community, sharing the warmth and humor that characterized his life with his family and friends.
Dennis was employed by BellSouth for more than 30 years. He was transferred from Miami to the Charlotte area in 1994. He retired from BellSouth in 2000 and joined his wife Sherry in operating their PostNet store in Cornelius.
Dennis had 3 loves in his life - his family, the ocean, and Miami Hurricanes football. He was passionate about spending time with his family as well as researching the family history. Dennis loved to go scuba diving and was most at home exploring coral reefs and the ocean floor prior to his illness. He was a strong man who did not back down in the face of a challenge, but rather gave his all in any given situation as is exemplified in his courageous battle with ALS.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sherry Riggs Coogle; daughters, Jenna Marie Coogle and Bethany Anne Coogle, all of Mooresville; and sister Barbara Ann Coogle of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by infant daughter, Brittany Leigh Coogle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Christ Community Church in Huntersville, with the Reverend Rick Felts officiating. A visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to ALS Therapy Development Institute, 215 First Street, 2nd Floor, Cambridge, MA 02142.
