Dennis Groce's Obituary
Robert Dennis Groce, age 64, of Davidson, passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2013.
Dennis was born on February 2, 1949 in Mecklenburg County to late Richard Eugene Groce and Lucille Christine Groce. He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1967. He proudly served in the US Army as an E6 Sergeant, Infantry Squad Leader, during his tour in Viet Nam. In addition he served 8 years Inactive Reserve. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason, and member of Long Creek Masonic Lodge #205 since 1979. Dennis was employed for Delta Scale, Inc. for over 30 years in the scales sales and service industry. He was a member and active in several churches throughout his life including First Baptist Church, Huntersville United Methodist Church, and Davidson United Methodist Church.
Dennis will be remembered for his warm smile, and kind and gentle spirit. He was affectionately known by a circle of friends as Big D and never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports both as a player and a spectator. He was an avid Panther Fan. He had an appreciation for all music, but he was happiest when listening to his friends the Barkley Brothers Band, and of recent years enjoying beach music.
He is survived by Janet Misenheimer Groce, his wife of 40 years. He is survived by daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Willett and son-in-law Derek Willett and granddaughter, Abigail Willett, 9 months. Other survivors include his mother Lucille Groce, sister, Bird Colonel Kathy Groce of Charlotte, NC, and brothers Ricky Groce of Cornelius,NC, David Groce of Hunterville, NC, Scott Groce of Taylorsville, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 Saturday, December 28 in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville, NC. Visitation will be 1-3 prior.
