Diane Goldsmith's Obituary
Diane Cecilia Goldsmith, 87, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, near family in Charlotte, NC. She was born on November 14, 1936, to the late Harriet and Joseph Kramer. Diane was a fun-loving and generous individual who was always busy and involved in many and varied activities. She was a consummate champion for women's rights and children's advocacy.
Diane obtained her BA in Political Science from the University of Cincinnati in 1979 years after graduating from Deer Park High School and starting her family. She had a successful career, serving as the Cincinnati Board of Elections Administrator from 1999 to 2012. Prior to that, she worked as an Administrative Aide to two Hamilton County Commissioners and previous to that as an Administrative Aide to a Cincinnati Council member. Diane was herself a City Council candidate in 1995 and 1997. In addition to her political endeavors, she owned and operated a boutique jewelry business from 1982 to 1985.
Diane received numerous accolades for her tireless contributions, including the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Cincinnati Women's Political Caucus in 1994 and being recognized as a Leading Woman Honoree in 1999. She advised and played an active role in various women and children's advocacy groups, including Women Helping Women Development Committee, Hamilton County Republican Women's Club, Cincinnati Women's Political Caucus, University of Cincinnati Friends of Women's Studies, Women's City Club of Cincinnati, YWCA Career Women of Achievement, and Ohio Republicans for Choice. She also mentored second and third-grade students at Vine Street School and served on the Playground Fundraising Committee.
Diane found immense solace and enjoyment in sports, supporting her own super athletic children, grand & great grand children. Her legacy and love of sports will be carried forward in the annual Goldsmith March Madness Trophy, that began as a family competition in 2013. She intensely followed professional and college sports and was a dedicated season ticket holding Cincinnati Bearcats and Cincinnati Bengals fan.
Spending time with, and her generosity towards, her family and friends was her Superpower.
In addition to her parents, Diane is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Robert Goldsmith, the father of her 5 children, and brother, David. She is survived by her daughters, Janeen, Daena, Maria, and Lisa; son Joe; grandchildren, Andrew, Eric, Curtis, Stephen, Cameron, Hayden, Vaughn, and Halle; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Lily, Ben, Ceci, Rome, Ollie, and Frankie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Remington Room in Montgomery, Ohio. Services are private for family and friends. The interment will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park in Cincinnati, OH.
Diane will be hugely missed by those who she made laugh and brought a ton of joy too.
