Dolly Peterson's Obituary
Dolly Wilkins Peterson, of Davidson, quietly passed away March 28, 2012 with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born September 11, 1930 in Valley City, ND the daughter of Walter G. and Lily Wilkins. Dolly’s family had an interesting American heritage dating back to the revolutionary war. Her great, great grandfather, Benjamin Cressy (Walter’s great grandfather), fought the British for independence in the Revolutionary War and her grandfather, Walter W. Wilkins fought for the Union during the Civil War.
Dolly graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1951. On June 3, 1951 she was married to DeForest Peterson in Valley City. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in Tacoma, Washington, St. Paul, MN and Valley City, ND. She assisted her husband, Deforest, for many years at Peterson-Olson Funeral Home providing love and support to grieving families. She was active in her church and served many years on the public library board of Valley City. In 1980 she was honored by the State Library Board when she received the Trustee Citation Award for outstanding service for the cause of Public Libraries in the State of North Dakota. She and her husband, DeForest, moved to Davidson, NC in 2005.
She is survived by a son, Lee (Theresa) of Cornelius, NC, a brother Ward (Mary Lou) Wilkins of Coon Rapids, MN and a sister Della (William) Easterday of Jacksonville, FL. Her husband, DeForest, a son David, her parents, and a brother Wayne, preceded her in death.
A memorial service, for Dolly and DeForest, is planned this summer in Valley City, ND.
