Don Brown's Obituary
Don P. Brown, 89, of Charlotte passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024. He was born on February 25, 1935, in Mecklenburg County to the late Roy and Louise Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Brown, Hugh Brown, Nick Brown and his beloved wife of 65 years, Nancy Harwell Brown, and infant son, Scott.
Survivors include his children, Gerald Brown and wife, Denise, of Denver, NC; Jeff Brown and wife, Donna, of Concord, NC; Cindy Brown Biasello and husband, Tony, of Churchville, MD; and Eric Brown and wife, Karen, of Charlotte, NC. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild
As a faithful Christian, Don read his Bible daily and practiced the word of Gospel. He lived his life daily as a righteous man serving God for the betterment of others. An active member at Trinity United Methodist Church, Don remained closely connected in Christian Fellowship with both Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and Williams Memorial Church.
Don was a proud Veteran. In 1953 Don enlisted with the Army and was assigned to the school of Engineering. He was later deployed to serve with the US Army during the Korean War interpreting messages and signals. Don received National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.
Don continued serving others through Trinity United Methodist Church, Long Creek Masonic Lodge and the Korean War Auxiliary Association.
Don retired from his role as a salesman with Ceco Corporation. His job involved local and overnight traveling. His wife, Nancy, often was able to join him as he personally visited his customers. These relationships developed into many lifelong friendships.
When not working or traveling, Don enjoyed life with his family, church, watching episodes of Gunsmoke, Carolina Basketball, Classic red f100 trucks, chocolate milk and Nancy's home made coconut cake.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, August 18 at James Funeral Home. Visitation with family and friends will be 1-2 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove U.M.C. Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC or Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC.
