Don Roth's Obituary
Donald E. "Don" Roth, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the age of 85. Born on August 22, 1926 in Buffalo, NY. He is pre-deceased by his two brothers Clarence and Wesley Roth. He graduated from Seneca Vocational High School in Buffalo then joined the US Army Air Corp and was stationed to protect the Panama Canal. He worked as a service manager for IBM for over 35 years receiving one of their highest awards “Best Manager of the Year”. He was passionate about spending time with his family and playing tennis and was an active volunteer with several organizations over the years. Among these include involvement in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) in Hartford, CT. He was an advisor, along with his wife, Jean, to seniors in high school through their church while living in Jamestown, NY. Don was State Coordinator and safe driving instructor for AARP 55 Alive mature driving program in South Carolina. Upon moving to Huntersville, NC, he joined The Golden Boys senior group and organized a tennis club avidly playing tennis three days a week.
He is survived by the love of his life for nearly 65 years, Harriet (Jean) Frazier Roth, of Huntersville; his son, Randall (Randy) Roth and daughter-in-law, Jody, of Cornelius; his daughter, Roxanne (Muffie) Blake and son-in-law, Jeffrey, of Cornelius; five grandchildren: grandsons, Bryan Davis and Donny Roth, and granddaughters, Katy (Davis) Whidden, Danielle (Roth) Thompson and Maureen Roth; and 7 great grandchildren: great grandsons, Colin Whidden, Tyler Davis, and William and Scott Thompson, and great granddaughters Alexa Davis and Charlie and Riley Thompson.
Don was a selfless man who was dearly loved by his entire family, friends and all who met him. He touched many hearts in his lifetime and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Huntersville Presbyterian Church at 1 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2012, with Rev. Vern Dodd officiating located at 201 South Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC immediately followed by a celebration of his life gathering from 2pm – 5pm at The Ranson House located at 412 South Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC.
