Don was a gentleman in every sense of the word and am missing his grace, kindness and gentle sense of humor. He was kind to everyone, unless you were a fat ten point buck in deer season.
I remember when Pat had heart surgery and was hospitalized for a month. Don was so devoted to her that he stayed with her nearly 24 hours a day and slept in a chair in her room. Never worrying about himself, he was totally dedicated to Pat’s recovery.
Don’s father was a finish carpenter, which is where Don learned his love of wood working and attention to fine detail. He earned his nickname “Three Angstrom Don” on the Habitat job site hanging kitchen cabinets with an accuracy the cabinet makers could only wish for. Don always wanted things just right for the Habitat homeowners because he so cared about the homes the homeowners worked so hard to achieve.
Don leaves a legacy of kindness, caring and humility. I am honored that he considered me to be one of his friends.
