When we heard that Debbie and Don were getting married, we were overjoyed for both of them.
There is no better union than marriage, particularly Christian marriage, for all concerned and a happy marriage is the best of them all.
Even though this one has reached its conclusion in this world, may the love and society that both of them had live on in fond memory.
Geographical limitations have meant that we did not see as much of Don and Debbie as we would have liked, but when we did manage to meet down in Southampton, we were always struck by how much love was in evidence between them.
Whether true or not, Don always looked slightly bemused by England, so like the US in some ways, but so different in others. The most confusing thing perhaps, is us driving on the correct side of the road and I know this was a bit of a trial to him when piloting Debbie around. Mark you, that was preferable to her driving!
Well now, as we would say in the United Reformed Church (Congregational, Churches of Christ and Presbyterian) Don has now been ‘Promoted to Glory’, away from the trials of this world and for this we must rejoice. This rejoicing is, however, tinged with sadness for those left behind and for whom we pray earnestly that they may be comforted.
At this difficult time, be good, generous and kind to each other. Strength is God’s gift though togetherness and think of Don’s welcome by angels into a much fuller life.
