Joan Daniel
My condolences to the family of Dr. Donald Carek. Don and I were first cousins and I have so many fond memories of our childhood. We were next door neighbors and as a result we were closer than most cousins normally are. Don was always a scholar, even in his grade school years. The fondest memory is the gift he gave me for my high school graduation. True to form—it was a BOOK. His inscription was: “All the best as you go to Whitewater College for your Mrs. Degree!” Well, I was successful in getting not only my Mrs. Degree but a B.Ed. Degree as well!. My husband and I would have celebrated our 62nd wedding anniversary last summer. He passed away almost a year ago and was a year younger than Don. I have many other wonderful memories of the Carek family. I will always treasure them.
Again, my deepest sympathy to all. Joan Gergisch Daniel, Rice Lake, WI
