Donald O. Kay Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Donald Oscar Kay, Sr. of Davidson, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7th, 2022.
Don will be missed by family and friends who shared in his love of food, drink, and fellowship for over 90 years. Everyone enjoyed his witty humor and his love for people was always apparent. He engaged with everyone he met and left them with a memorable impression.
Born on July 17th, 1931 in Spartanburg, SC he graduated from Clemson University in 1954 and went straight to work for Reeves Brothers (Foamex) in Chesnee, SC. He then transferred with them to Buena Vista, VA where him and Sybil started their family and finally to the Cornelius plant in 1965, where he retired after 39 years of management with the company.
He was a member of Davidson United Methodist Church and resided on Pine Road in Davidson for over 40 years where he enjoyed gardening, traveling and fishing until their move to The Pines in Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Calvin and Beaufort Inez Kay. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sybil Mahaffey Kay; their children, Donald (Don) Oscar Kay, Jr. (Lisa) of Davidson, Jerome Wallace Kay (Joy) of Yadkinville, grandchildren; Jennifer Kay Herring (John), Jordan Kay Cooner (Will), Morgan Kay Lyda (Cory), Madison Klaire Kay; great grandchild, Elizabeth (Ellie) Kay Herring and many additional grandchildren in the near future.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 11, 11:00 AM at James Funeral Home in Huntersville with the interment to follow at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
