I attended Southside High School and had the privilege of knowing Donald Vinson as an English teacher, drama coach and friend. He was demanding, witty, exacting and tolerant. He made us memorize long passages all the while correcting pronunciation and grammar. The time he spent with us, as I look back, was astonishing. He was kind and funny, and the best teacher I ever had. His life made a difference in mine.
So sorry to hear of Father Vinson death. My prayers are with Linda & family. When our son was dying from complications of HIV he was good with my husband & I. Our son died on Christmas eve. We didn't make midnight services, but friends and family told us Donald gave a wonderful sermon and help us thru the funeral. He will always be remembered fondly by our family. He wad a wonderful person & minister. Peace.

Donald is our daughter's father-in-law who we grew to know and love in the last 10 years. He will be dearly missed. We know you will rest in eternal peace, because you made such a tremendous impact on so many peoples' lives and minds as a Man of God and Family.

Donald was one of the most gifted homilists I have been privileged to hear; his homilies related life to Biblical teachings and Biblical teachings (and history) to life. He was personal and approachable. His sense of humor was both irreverent and sublime. What a blessing to have known him!
