I remember my first day In Mrs. Crawford’s English class at North Mecklenburg H. S.. If my math is correct, it was 57 years ago, 10th grade, 1968. Myself and other students from J. M. Alexander were meeting students from Ranson and newly integrated African American students for the first time. I have always appreciated the professional way Mrs. Crawford handled this diverse group of teenagers. As an educator for many years myself, I often looked back to the positive example of Mrs. Crawford and other North Meck teachers from those years. While I never felt that I became a very accomplished writer, any competence that I did develop was greatly enhanced by the grammar lessons in Mrs. Crawford’s classroom. My deep condolences to her family, friends, and community. Gerald Davis; North Meck class of 1971.
