Doris Rushing's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Doris Jean Rushing
(October 2, 1935 – January 27, 2023)
Doris Jean Rushing (Conder Cruse) passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the age of 87. Doris was a native of Decatur County, born in Parsons, TN, on October 2, 1935 to the late Connie Cruse and Lyda Conder. She spent her youth in Union City & Martin, TN, later residing in Chicago, IL, and her beautiful Roanoke, VA, before moving to Charlotte, NC.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Bobby G. Rushing.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and mother-in-law by Laine (Tuck) & husband Nick Hammond and David Tuck and wife Dana.
She is also survived by her sisters and their families, Joella Parks of Chicago, IL, Janet Hill of Charlotte, NC, Brenda (Conder) and husband Richard Denning of Naples, FL, and her brother Russell Conder and wife Karen of Fayetteville, NC.
Doris cherished her three grandchildren Ashley Tuck, Adam Tuck and wife Anna, and Aaron Tuck and wife Rebecca.
And she adored her many nieces, nephews and stepchildren spoiling them at every opportunity.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Linda Hall and brother Bobby Cruse, Bobby Joe Tuck, her ex-husband and father of her three children and her beloved son Robert Joseph “Joe” Tuck.
As well as being the best mother ever! Doris spent her working years as a registered nurse in both Chicago, IL and Union City, TN. A profession she excelled in due to her compassionate and caring nature.
She never met a stranger, open heartedly embracing life with kindness and respect toward all.
She possessed endless curiosity and intelligence with a brilliant wit. She kept us on our toes and taught us to be our very best selves. She loved to travel the world but always remained a proud American.
She was passionate about Orchids, gardening, books, playing bridge and the beach, she couldn’t swim but loved to snorkel. She was also an avid birdwatcher, as well as an animal lover, in particular cats and dogs, rescuing and adopting many into her home and heart. She loved music and the arts and passed this on to her children.
Her life will be celebrated by all those who knew her as she left our hearts full of beauty and the vision of a world where love always finds a way.
Upon the death of her husband Rush, Doris’ ashes will be co-mingled with his ashes and buried in Tennessee.
