Dorothy Sherrill Washam's Obituary
Dorothy Dixon Sherrill Washam, 92, of Cornelius, NC died on December 18, 2013, at the Summit Place in Mooresville, NC.
She was one of nine children, born on June 13, 1921 to Mary Edna Daniel Dixon and Alvin Mills Dixon of Rutherford County, NC.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Edgar Johnston Sherrill of Cornelius. Later she remarried Frank B. Washam of Cornelius, who also preceded her in death. Dorothy graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing and retired as Supervisor of Davidson College Student Health Center after 40 plus years of service. Dorothy was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served as a Girl Scout leader and loved playing bridge.
She is survived by her son Bryan Nixon Sherrill and wife Vicki of Cornelius, and daughter LaNell Sherrill Forrest of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived and blessed by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Dee (Chris), Caroline and Patrick Duggan; Kevin (Anne), Connor and Lily Grace Forrest; Eddy (Emily), Charlotte, Bland and Hunter Forrest; Will, Matthew (Julie), Ben, and Patrick Sherrill.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 11:00 AM, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church located at 19600 Zion Ave., Cornelius, NC 28031. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
