Dorothy "Dot" Fleming's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) R. Fleming , 80 of Mooresville, went to be with her Lord & Savior Monday, November 30, 2015. She passed at her home with her loving & devoted sons by her side. She courageously and graciously battled lung cancer & pulmonary disease for the last several years. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday and spent her last days visited and surrounded by many cherished friends and family.
Dot was born in Rockwell, NC on Oct. 4th, 1935 to Lily Katherine Graham Forrester and William Frank Russell. She was raised along with her stepfather, JD Forrrester, and graduated from A.L. Brown High School.
She started her nursing career immediately after graduating from Lowrance Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She eventually found her nursing home as a R.N. with Davidson College taking care of numerous students over the next 4 decades. Dot retired after 34 years as the Nursing Director of the College Infirmary, but never retired of taking care of anyone she knew or were in need of care!
Mrs. Fleming & Husband, Frank Thomas Fleming Sr. were long time members of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, NC. They moved their young family to the Shearers Chapel Community in 1971. Shortly after, they both joined Shearers Presbyterian Church where she was a proud, active & devoted servant to her last breath!
Those left to cherish her memory include sons Frank Thomas Fleming Jr. and Murray Lee Fleming and daughter in law Jennifer Ryan Fleming. Also surviving are sister Mary Russell , sister in law Frances Forrester & Half Brother Ralph Forrester; nieces Helen Mundy, Linda Ingle, Becky Carter, Judy Lowrance, Elaine Brumbly, & Debbie Leazer, as well as nephews Tommy & Roy Forrester, Paul & Barry Fleming. Preceeding her in death were her husband Frank, mother & step father.
Dot’s homecoming celebration will be Thursday, December 3 at 2:00 at Shearers Presbyterian Church, with the family receiving friends prior to her service, from 12-2:00. Immediately following will be her burial alongside her loving husband at Bethel Presbyterian Church. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Iredell County or Shearers Church.
The family would like to acknowledge a special thanks to neighbors Mr. & Mrs. Parks/Louise Martin, Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy/Doris Sherrill & Mr. & Mrs. Jerry/Annette Hinson as well as dozens of her closest church family who offered so much more than care in her times of need! Also a very special Thank You to Miss Mara Edwards who was her long term care giver.
