Dorothy Hucks' Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Gilbert Hucks passed away on Tuesday, 1/30/2024, at the age of 95.
She was born, raised, lived and died in Mecklenburg County. She married her high-school sweetheart, Charles Calvin Hucks, and they had 70+ years together, ending with his passing in 2021. She was active in her Huntersville United Methodist church years ago until they moved their membership to the University City United Methodist Church. She was secretary to the engineering department at Union Carbide and rose to executive secretary for the plant manager for Union Carbide (now Dow Chemical) in Charlotte, for many years. She loved simple things, like her many bird feeders that yielded birdsongs that filled the yard, and taking old bread down to the lake to feed the fish. She would find a sapling in the woods and bring it close to the house so she could watch it grow. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family, whom she loved so deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyt and Catherine Gilbert, and a brother, Eddie Gilbert (Helen).
She is survived by a daughter, Anne Hucks Davis (John); 3 grandchildren: Christi Catrett, MA (Thomas), Montgomery, Alabama; Dr. Erin Hopper (Steven, with 2 great-grandsons, Evan and Nathan), Madison, Wisconsin; and Dr. Lauren Davis, Bozeman, Montana; and a brother, Floyd (Marlene); and several nieces. There are 3 special nieces that were always there to help Dot at any time. Special mention should include Debbie Holsinger (Mark), Beth McConnell, and Becky Graham (David). Anne, living out of town, doesn't know how she would have coped the last several years without their loving help.
Services will include visitation at James Funeral Home in Huntersville on Saturday, February 24, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Huntersville ARP Church on Main St., Huntersville, at 11:30 a.m.
James Funeral Home is assisting the family, online condolences may be made a www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com.
