Dorothy Pope Almond's Obituary
Dorothy Pope Almond, 85, of Charlotte, NC., died peacefully in the company of family at her home on August 27, 2014. Dorothy was born on July 6, 1929 in Carthage, TN, daughter of the late Walter Garrett Pope and Martha Elizabeth Silcox Pope.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Calvin Almond; brothers, Albert Draper Silcox, Walter Glen Pope, Sammie Lee Pope and Thayer Dewhite Pope; sister, Lillian Kathleen Pope.
Dorothy was happiest when spending time with family. She enjoyed cooking, singing, and playing the guitar. She was a longtime employee at Wachovia Bank.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Beth Almond Furlough of Davidson, Martha Almond Snyder of Zebulon, Patti Abernethy and her husband Tom of Charlotte, Thomas Michael Almond and his wife Jackie of Cornelius, and Terri Lynn Almond of Belmont; Grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Prewitt and his wife Christy, Carol Ann Abernethy, Wes O’Bryant Farrell and his wife Kylie, Wendy Farrell Dunlap and her husband Travis, Kathy Abernethy Davis and her husband James, Bonnie Almond Eppes, and Jessica Lauren Jolly; great grandchildren, Nathan Prewitt, Jackson Farrell, Ethan Dunlap, Mia Farrell, Gunner Farrell, and Tucker Dunlap; brothers, Buck Allen Pope and Roy Neal Pope; sisters, Fannie Lorene Stone, Robbie Kate Duffey and Mary Francis Burris.
A service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be officiated by Pastor Todd Marlin in the chapel of Independence Hill Baptist Church, Huntersville on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 2:00pm, with visitation following. The family will hold a private interment.
