Dorothy Mae Smith Sutter
After a long struggle, Dorothy Mae Smith Sutter peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the age of 85 in Huntersville, NC.
Born in Ottumwa, Iowa and raised on a farm in Center Point, she graduated from Center Point High School in 1957 and attended Iowa State University where she met her future husband, Gary Jorgen Sutter on a blind date. After marriage, she lived briefly in Utah and North Carolina, but spent 50 years in Fredericksburg, Virginia raising a family and working as a teacher’s aide at Grafton Village Elementary School.
Dorothy was a voracious reader, avid bridge player, crafter and Santa collector. She most enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids grow up.
Mrs. Sutter is preceded in death by her parents, George and Nelda Lea Smith and her husband Gary Jorgen Sutter. She is survived by her two children Kevin (Kathy) Sutter of Bluffton, SC, Denise Sutter of Huntersville, NC; her two grandchildren John (Amy) and Scott (Erica) Sutter and three great grandchildren, George, Remington, and Collins Sutter of Pittsburgh, PA.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Sutter will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg, VA on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 2pm.
