Doug Weinstein's Obituary
Douglas (Doug) Alfred Weinstein passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday June 23, 2019, at his home in Davidson, NC. Doug was born October 20, 1967, in East Point, GA. He is survived by his mother, Gloria Jean Weinstein, his father, Malcolm Michael Weinstein (Orietta), his brother, Stephen Nathaniel (Cyndi), his sister, Lisa Arlene Volz (Carl) and his nieces, Jordyn, Ruthie and nephew, Brandon, as well as many beloved relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded by his grandmothers, Annie “Granny” Wigley and Hannah Entell.
Doug lived a rich and fulfilling life despite a terrible roofing accident in 1988 that caused him to be a paraplegic. Doug remained very active, traveling the nation on a wheelchair rugby team, operating his pontoon boat on Lake Norman, playing pool with his friends and maintaining salt water fish tanks. As Doug entered the gates of heaven, he no doubt had a joyful greeting by his dearly beloved service dog Mitra.
Doug graduated from Rolling Meadows, IL high school. He escaped the cold winters of Illinois in 1997 and made a new home in his condo on Lake Norman. He enjoyed the Charlotte area and made many new friends. He loved watching the sunsets along the lake while conversing and telling jokes with his family.
Doug’s disability didn’t slow him down, and he was an inspiration to many people. Cremation rites will be accorded. A private Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 13, at Eddie’s on Lake Norman, 643 Williamson Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.
