Douglas Duever's Obituary
Douglas "Doug" Frederick Duever, 82, of Cornelius died May 30, 2024 at his home. He was born on October 23, 1941 in Hays, KS to the late Fred and Corrine Duever.
Doug Duever grew up as a pastor’s kid throughout the Midwest states of Kansas, Missouri and Illinois and was the oldest of four siblings. He attempted briefly to follow in his father’s footsteps by attending seminary but at the age of 19, his father died and so too did his ambition to be a pastor. Eventually he found his way into premed where he met a fetching young nurse named Patricia who would become his wife in August of 1965. When their first child, Scott came along in February 1967, Doug dropped out of school and took a full time job at the local Pizza Hut. He learned quickly and ascended rapidly, becoming a store manager in just a short time.
It was during this time that Doug honed his natural eye for detail and developed his uncompromising standards for doing a job well and right. He impressed the owners enough that several new opportunities and increased ownership were offered to him over the ensuing 7 years that took him to Pittsburgh, where their second child Deborah was born in 1969, and then on to Jamestown, NY in 1974 where they stayed until he retired in 1993 at the age of 53.
Once retired, Doug and Pat moved to Las Cruces, NM where they spent the next 25 years traveling and touring the deserts of the southwest and the mountains of the west. Indulging in his love of anything with an engine and wheels, he alternated between 4 wheel drive adventuring and satisfying his need for speed, sports cars and race tracks.
By 2021, developing health concerns necessitated a move to the Lake Norman area in North Carolina where Doug and Pat could be close to their children and grandchildren.
Doug will be remembered as a beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather and who could be counted on for godly wisdom, unconditional love, lavish generosity, and a heart of 24kt gold.
Survivors include his wife Pat; son, Scott Duever and wife Kerry of Huntersville; daughter, Deborah Duever of Cornelius; sister, Constance Duever; and grandchildren, Emily and Madeline.
