Douglas Kraus' Obituary
Douglas Richard Kraus, 33, of Huntersville, NC, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 2, 1988, and is survived by his mother Sharon, sister Kimberly Moon and her husband Tyler, and his girlfriend Tara. His late father Richard passed on January 31, 2020.
Doug moved with his family to Huntersville in 1997. He was an enterprising young man, who while in fourth grade bought a secondhand lawn mower from a neighbor. He began a mowing service, hiring his friends to help. He discovered that he really enjoyed working outdoors and was particular in the aesthetics of a client’s property. He attended college courses in landscaping in tandem with high school. On graduation he opened his business, “Premier Turf” which he operated until his passing.
Doug was an exceptionally good baseball player, a catcher, earning many awards through school and into an adult league. He so loved the game that he played on the school team, rec league and a traveling tournament team all at once.
Along with his father, he shared a love for poker, and they even enjoyed a poker cruise and a trip to Las Vegas together. He enjoyed building remote control cars and tinkering with his vehicles, always adding some sort of new gadget.
Doug had a big heart and was often recognized for his kindness to others. He quietly assisted many, from helping a lady broken down on the highway, to always being the first one there for his friends.
A funeral service will be held at 5:30 pm Saturday March 19, 2022. Visitation to follow until 8:00 pm at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
