Dr. Selman Gable's Obituary
Dr. Ronald Selman Gable, 78, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, in Cornelius, NC.
Dr. Gable was born in Austell, GA on October 12, 1938 and was raised in Douglasville, GA by J.L. Selman Gable and Lucile McTyre Gable. He attended college at Georgia Tech and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1960 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. Dr. Gable earned his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1965, trained in Internal Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA, and served as a captain and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force in Dayton, OH. He did his residency training at Vanderbilt University in ophthalmology and served patients in Concord, NC as an ophthalmologist from 1980 until 2012. A member of the medical staff of Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and then Northeast Medical Center, Dr. Gable also served on the Board of Directors of Northeast Medical Center from 1996 to 1999. Having earned his pilot’s license in 1968, he was an avid pilot with extensive experience in backcountry flying in Utah, Idaho, and Alaska.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Seckinger Gable, three children Alicia, Ashley, and Jeff Gable, and two granddaughters, Isabella and Caroline Perna.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC at 11:00am, and visitation with the family will be available starting at 10:00am.
