Edwina Gaskins Turbyfill's Obituary
Edwina “Pat” Gaskins Turbyfill, 72, of Charlotte, NC went to sit at the feet of Jesus on Tuesday August 1, 2017, after surviving dialysis treatments 3 times a week for the last 5 ½ years, at her care home in Huntersville, NC. She was surrounded by her friend of 45 years, Kay Roderick, her “Prince” Prince Jenkins (caregiver in her care home) and her daughter Wendie.
She was born on August 16, 1944 in Raleigh, NC and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edwina Gaskins. Pat grew up on the coast of North Carolina. She and her mother later settled in Charlotte where she graduated from Garinger High School in 1962. Pat was an avid gardener and loved her animals. Pat was a member of Northdale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lawrence Turbyfill, Jr. Survivors include her daughter Wendie Turbyfill Mackey of Stanley, NC and son-in-law Darryl Mackey. She was Mimi to her grandchildren; Madison Claire Mackey, William Lawrence Mackey and Grant Beacher Mackey of Stanley, NC. She is also survived by her step sons, Stan Turbyfill and Keith Turbyfill, grandchildren Nathan Turbyfill and James Turbyfill, wife Brooke Turbyfill and great grandchildren Brandon and Lyla Turbyfill.
The family would like to thank Melissa Lynch, Scott Southard, Prince Jenkins, Kylie Schwartz, Brittany Lee, Shakitta Hill, Kiera Little, and Andrea Leon with Senior Care of the Carolinas, Shepparton House, for loving and caring for Mimi. Her life was blessed and full because of each of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Monday August 7, 2017 beginning at 10:00am at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC with the service starting at 11:00 a.m.
The graveside service will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens in Charlotte, NC.
