Elizabeth May King's Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" King, 96, of Huntersville, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2022.
Betty was born in Claremont, NH on September 10, 1926. She grew up on a farm with nine of her siblings. After graduating from Towle High School in Claremont, NH she went on to Northhampton Jr. College in Northhampton, MA . She landed her first job as a secretary for Mass Mutual in Springfield, MA. There she met the love of her life, William “Bill” King and they wed on December 13, 1947. They moved to Maryland and she became a stay at home mom fostering children. They started their own family by adopting their oldest child, Bruce, and having three biological daughters. Betty dedicated her life to being a loving and nurturing mother. She excelled at propping up members of her family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. When her children were grown, she went back to college and became a nurse, working at Good Samaritan hospital in West Islip NY. As a nurse she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. In 1983, she and Bill moved to Largo, Fl for retirement. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo, Florida. After 30+ years in Florida, she moved to NC to be closer to her children. Betty was a passionate tennis player, golfer, and card player and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be seen trying to perfect her golf swing or getting better at her backhand in tennis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judson and Bertha Brooks, and siblings, Judson Jr, Lester, Albert, Richard, Eleanor, Sarah.
She is survived by her children; Bruce King (Kim) of Selden, NY, Robin Newman (Maggie Davey) of Sanford, NC, Susan Cavasinni (Ernie) of Huntersville, NC, Karen Haab of East Hampton NY, grandchildren; Michael Cavasinni (Kathryn) of Cumming, GA , Andrew Newman (Liz) of Stratford, ON, Joey Cavasinni (Jessica) of Charlotte, NC, Michelle Newman of Manorville, NY, Rachel Haab of East Hampton, NY, Jonathan Newman of Patchogue, NY, Thomas King of Selden, NY, Lauren Vanselous (Brendan) of Thornton, CO, and great grandchildren; Quinn, Samuel, Wells, Vivienne, Josie, Griffin, Camilla, Saige, James, Lily, and Hazel. She will be missed greatly.
