Elizabeth Neal's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Wollschlager Neal, age 94, of 3172 Lakeshore Road South, Denver, NC died November 27, 2015 at her home.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, April 20, 1921 to parents Clara Schmidt Wollschlager and Emil Wollschlager. After her mother’s death she was supported as she grew into adulthood by stepmother Irene Bickel Wollschlager. She was a graduate of the University of Buffalo with a Masters in Psychiatry Social Work and a life member of the service sorority Alpha Gamma Delta. After retirement, she and her husband, the late Benjamin E. Neal Jr., were active supporters of East Lincoln Christian Ministries and Centralina Council of Aging. They spent many hours initiating the meals program which she stayed active in after his death.
She continued to be a member of Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, NY even after retiring to her house on the lake and became an affiliate member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver, NC. She loved to share her social work skills in the communities she lived. Betty was a world traveler with her husband and an avid gardener, golfer, and loving grandparent/great grandparent.
Betty was married to Ben for 55 years and is survived by their three children: Barbara Neal of Denver, NC; Benjamin E. Neal III with wife Catherine of Racine, WI; and James Neal of Charlotte, NC. She enjoyed watching her grand and great grandchildren grow: William Reese IV, Monica Neal, Kimberly Heller-Neal, Patricia Neal, Bradley Neal, Alexandra Reese, and Matthew Reese.
A memorial service will take place at Unity Presbyterian Church November 29, 2015 at 2pm and final interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo NY for family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: East Lincoln Christian Ministries, P. O. Box 421, Denver, NC 28037; Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092, and Unity Presbyterian Church, 8210 Unity Church Road, Denver, NC 28037.
