English "Carroll" Hunter's Obituary
English “Carroll” Hunter, 84, of Charlotte NC passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Carroll was born on November 17th, 1940, in Charlotte, NC to the late Richard and Helen Hunter. He graduated in the first class of Garinger High School and went on to marry his high school sweetheart while working at his family’s business.
Carroll’s greatest joy was his family. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife and took immense pride in their two children. Carroll was a source of laughter, support, and quiet strength to those in his life – a man who always put others before himself.
As an owner of Hunter Auto and Wrecker Service, Carroll was dedicated to his family’s business. He was known for the relationships he built in the community through honesty, hard work, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. Carroll was an active member at Gloryland Baptist and enjoyed attending Sunday service before going home to cheer on his favorite football team, the Raiders. He was a golf enthusiast, drag racer, gardener, animal lover, beach goer, and always appreciated a good meal at his favorite restaurant. Carroll will be remembered for his easy smile, big heart, and his deep devotion to those that he loved.
In addition to his parents, Carroll is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Hunter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara; their children, Tommy Hunter (Susan) and Kim Hunter Athens (Pete); grandchildren, Eddie, Ashley, Preston, Aly (Jordan), Brooke (David), Russell (Rachel), and Morgan; great grandchildren, Rylin, Riley, Ryker, Damehn, Bentley, and Weston; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, at James Funeral Home in Huntersville. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, funeral service at 12:00 PM, with a reception following the service. The interment will follow the reception at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Arts Program (UMAR) with Monarch. This is a creative arts day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that provides opportunities for individuals with develop skills, express themselves, and build friendships through creative activities.
